Other Batmanfilms have taken the character seriously,but I’m not sure any has ever treated what the character means — to his fansas well as to the fictional residents of Gotham City — any more thoughtfully, at least until The Batman’s rambling series of endings, which deserve comparison to The Lord of the Ring: The Return of the King.
