When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido, a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.

‘Alita: Battle Angel’ Became a Cult Favorite
Alita: Battle Angel was met with more of a muted response from critics when it first came out, currently sitting at a 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. They couldn’t help but be wowed by the visual effects, action and the performance of Salazar. But the story proved to be a stumbling block. However, audiences proved far more enthusiastic, awarding it a staggering 91% and helping the movie develop the cult following that has kept calls for a sequel alive years later.
The movie was hardly a financial disaster, either. Alita: Battle Angel grossed approximately $405 million worldwide, an impressive total complicated by its enormous production budget and marketing costs and, while that wasn’t enough to immediately launch the franchise its creators envisioned, its lasting popularity has prevented Alita from disappearing into the sci-fi scrapyard.
