In one of the weirdest moments in any Star Wars film or show — which is really saying something —Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan get out of a jam early in The Phantom Menace when they are surrounded by destroyer droids by using cartoon-like super-speed to escape their attackers. (In the image above they’re the green and blue blurs on the right side of the frame.) Yes, Jedi Knights have enhanced fighting abilities, and we often see them making impossibly long or high leaps that an ordinary person could never pull off. But they never ran like the Road Runner before or after this moment — even though Force running powers would have come in handy many times — including in The Phantom Menace when Obi-Wan doesn’t run fast enough to catch up to Qui-Gon and Darth Maul, and then has to watch Maul murder Qui-Gon with his lightsaber.
