3 Netflix Shows You Need to Binge This Week

Right now, as of July 28th, the Netflix TV top 10 in the US is dominated by a selection of great shows. In fifth, My Melody & Kuromi is an anime series commanding the viewing of four-to eight-year-olds. The top three includes true-crime series Amy Bradley Is Missing, which continues its impressive run. Just missing out on Netflix’s TV summit is The Hunting Wives, the steamy new series likened to HBO’s Big Little Lies. And topping the charts in the US is Untamed, a new murder mystery series starring Eric Bana. Netflix has much more than these on offer, though. With that in mind, here are three other recommendations of what you should watch on Netflix this week.

‘Hightown’ (2020 – 2024)

Rotten Tomatoes: 71% | IMDb: 6.9/10

A huge hit back in 2020, the Monica Raymund-led crime drama was abruptly removed from its streaming home, Starz, following a successful three-season run. Just over a year after the finale aired, Netflix swooped in to save the day, offering the crime drama a new lease of life in 2025. The series follows Raymund’s Jackie Quiñones, a woman struggling with alcohol and drug abuse and battling to stay sober. However, after finding the body of a murdered woman, Jackie becomes swept up in a frightening investigation.

Slick, stylish, and packed full of drama, Hightown delivers on its simple yet effective premise. Raymund is typically excellent throughout this three-season, twenty-five-episode run, delivering one of her best performances as a woman fighting a selection of inner demons whilst chaos unfolds around her. Currently the fourth most-streamed show on Netflix in the US, you’ll want to jump on the bandwagon and check out Rebecca Perry Cutter’s Hightown.

‘Heartstopper’ (2022 – 2025)

One of the highest-rated Netflix shows of the 2020s, Heartstopper, created by Alice Oseman and based on their webcomic of the same name, follows the tricky young love of a pair of teenage boys, Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke). Facing the wrath of their bigoted peers but buoyed by a select few friends who understand their struggle, the duo form a bond unlike any other as a beautiful young romance blossoms.

Later this year, Heartstopper will officially come to an end with the upcoming feature-length final chapter, Heartstopper: Forever. Tragically, this endearing show simply won’t last forever, meaning that, ahead of its biggest step yet, there is no better time to catch up than now. The touching, family-friendly tale at the center of Heartstopper is more important than ever.

‘Arcane’ (2021 – 2024)

Rotten Tomatoes: 100% | IMDb: 9.0/10

A holder of both the coveted perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes and a rare 9+ rating on IMDb, little can compete with the brilliance of Arcane. Set in Riot’s League of Legends world, this animated series follows sisters Vi and Jinx, who find themselves on opposite sides of a deadly battle. Despite their love, the two must come to blows as a struggle for power and resources in the utopian city of Piltover explodes.

Visually stunning, narratively enthralling, and utterly unmissable, if you haven’t yet watched Arcane and have a subscription to Netflix, you’re wasting it. Considered by some to be the best Netflix original series of all time, the show has delivered two near-perfect seasons and eighteen mesmerizing episodes, which led to a well-deserved four Primetime Emmy Awards, among many other nominations.
