See, what you want to do when you’re making a movie about one of the coolest and most beloved characters in the history of cinema is give him a boring, pointless origin story that explains every single superficial facet of his persona (and even his last name!) while ignoring all of the deeper reasons why audiences like him. Obviously Solo was a movie with a very troubled production; its original directors (Phil Lord and Chris Miller) were fired during production and replaced by Ron Howard. But when you get right down to it, maybe the real issue is this: All the money in the world couldn’t turn Alden Ehrenreich into young Harrison Ford.
