The body swap in 2003’s Freaky Friday took place at a Chinese restaurant, a fact that China Bistro giant P.F. Chang’s exploited with a menu tied to the film’s sequel, Freakier Friday. In keeping with the notion of one person’s soul in another person’s body, they offered this “Pink Slip Ube Cheesecake” dessert, which supposedly had “creamy ube, made from real purple sweet potato, layered on a velvety vanilla cheesecake, strawberry-vanilla sauce, topped with edible pink glitter, and freeze-dried dragon fruit.”

The layered look sort of echoed Freakier Friday’s premise — although a dish that looked like one food and tasted like another would have worked better. The bigger problem: Making an ube cheesecake dessert for a menu inspired by a kids movie. I actually took my kids with me to eat this meal, and while they were largely satisfied with the experience, they were totally grossed out by the dessert. One child hated the taste and the other refused to even try it. I couldn’t blame them; instead of two different flavors combined, it had zero flavor period. Creamy texture aside, it was basically a colorful disc of bland mush.
