What AI Needs From Humans
AI has become a huge game changer in recent years as part of the international technology landscape. New startups have increased by 2.8 times between 2013 and 2022. AI investments have also increased by almost 20 times in 2022.
Global AI adoption has also been on the rise with businesses in countries like Canada, Australia, and the U.S. using or exploring more AI technology. Many of us expect AI to affect our everyday lives considerably in at least the next three years, especially with the launch of ChatGPT having produced great excitement worldwide.
However, it’s important to remember that AI isn’t perfect and can make costly mistakes. One instance was when an AI soccer camera mistakenly tracked a bald head instead of the ball during a game. But interestingly, these problems are easily manageable using human intelligence and soft skills, which AI lacks.
Although some AI applications have shown to be intelligent enough to pass as a human in the Turing Test, no AI technology has yet to be able to pass the Lovelace Test which involves an AI to come up with something that is unexplainable by the human creators. This is one of the main reasons why technology experts are against continuing the development of AI as advanced AI could lead to profound change to our life on Earth.
Nonetheless, several people believe that with the right guidance from humans, AI can make significant progress. Combining the power of AI with human elements and experience could help AI gain the ability to make moral choices, use common sense, and multitask effectively. AI would benefit the most if it can learn the human ability to be creative and adaptive through careful curation.
AI has great potential to become even more advanced in the future, but only if human-centric commands can be better incorporated into the technology.
