SQU4D, the division of JYP Entertainment that manages NMIXX, has confirmed that the girl group’s recent viral live performance was “staged” in a new statement.
NMIXX recently went viral for their recent performance of ‘Dice at the Shinhan University Festival in Seoul, South Korea. During their set, the song’s backing track cuts out midway, leaving the girl group to perform the song acapella for the second half.
Following the moment, NMIXX were praised online for their live vocals, according to reactions captured by Koreaboo soon after footage of their performance was posted on social media.

However, SQU4D revealed in a statement today (May 30) that they had “agreed with the university to stage a malfunction with the backtrack” in order to “heat up the atmosphere of the show”, as translated by Koreaboo.
The JYP Entertainment division also claimed that they “did not let the NMIXX members know about this beforehand” as they wanted to “create a natural setting” for the performance.
“We apologise for the discomfort guests and fans felt through this performance and will work hard so that this will not happen again in the future,” the label added.

In other K-pop news, seven members of Kep1er have agreed to extend their contracts ahead of the release of their first studio album. Remaining members Mashiro and Yeseo, however, will leave after the girl group’s “project term” expires.
Meanwhile, LOONA member Yves has officially made her solo debut with the release of her first mini-album ‘Loop’. She is the final LOONA member release new music after the group’s lawsuit against Blockberry Creative.
