Lizzo strikes again at the summit of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as “About Damn Time” ascends to No. 1 on the list dated July 16. The single advances from No. 2 to rule the list, which factors streaming, radio airplay and sales into its ranking, in its 12th chart week as radio airplay continues to gain.
“Time,” released through Nice Life/Atlantic Records, previews Lizzo’s forthcoming studio album, Special, out this Friday (July 15).
The new champ secures Lizzo’s fourth No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. She previously led with “Truth Hurts” (11 weeks in 2019), “Good as Hell,” (four weeks, 2019) and “Rumors,” featuring Cardi B (one week, 2021).
“Time” reaches No. 1 with 12.5 million U.S. official streams in the week ending July 7, according to Luminate. Though it slides 2% compared with the prior week (that ended June 30), it rises 6-5 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, where it has peaked thus far at No. 3. Also in the week ending July 7, “Time” sold 8,000 downloads, down 10%, but still good for a No. 2 rank on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales. There, “Time” has logged seven weeks at No. 1.
Despite backsteps in sales and streaming, radio airplay continues its positive momentum as the song shows strength in the pop, rhythmic and R&B/hip-hop formats. (All airplay, regardless of format origin, contributes to a song’s standing on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.) “Time” logs a second week at No. 1 on Pop Airplay – making it the most-played song on U.S. monitored mainstream top-40 radio stations – and improved upon its first week in charge, registering 3% more plays in the week ending July 10 compared with the week prior. It’s similarly nearing the top slot of Rhythmic Airplay, where it rises 5-4 following a 7% improvement in plays in the latest tracking week. On R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, the single moves 28-27 thanks to a 3% boost in weekly plays at the format’s stations.
With its dominance at pop radio and supporting help from the rhythmic and R&B/hip-hop arenas, “Time” rises 2-1 to lead the all-genre Radio Songs chart. There, it swelled 7% in weekly audience to 83.2 million in the week ending July 7.
Elsewhere, “Time” captures an eighth week at No. 1 on the Hot R&B Songs chart and steps 3-2 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
