Kim Kardashian Recalls Ye Playing This Classic Song as She Was Giving Birth to North West: ‘Isn’t It So Her?’

Dads can take on many roles in the delivery room, but for Ye (formerly Kanye West), he fittingly filled DJ duties while his now ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, was giving birth to their first daughter, North West, in June 2013.

Kim joined her younger sister Khloé’s Khloé in Wonder Land podcast Wednesday (Jan. 21), during which she recalled West giving a DJ set while she was in labor, and him playing Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” as North made her arrival.

“She knew what she wanted since the moment she was born,” Kim said. “Getting born to the song ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ Kourtney and I talk about this all the time. Kanye was DJing, so he put on ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ for the moment she came out.”

The Skims mogul continued: “And isn’t it so her? Kourtney and I cry laughing, thinking of this moment and how it’s just so like her, you know? That’s such a weird fact. When I listen to it, I just, like, get [emotional].”

Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” arrived in 1975 and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Roy Thomas Baker-produced anthem is certified Diamond by the RIAA in the United States.

North has been honing her craft, following in her father’s footsteps as an artist-producer. Later in the interview, Khloé spoke about how Ye and Kim’s coparenting relationship has improved thanks to North’s passion for music.

“You and Ye have really bonded over North’s producing,” Khloé said. “You guys are now in a much better place because of that.”

“I’m a really empathetic person,” Kim replied. “I mean, at the end of the day, we’re always family. I always look at it that way, no matter what’s going on. The music side and the producing isn’t my thing.”

She continued: “That’s her bonding thing with her dad. But even just, like, coming up with stuff, we have to communicate about how North, like, moves through that world and all these opportunities that come her way, and having to filter that and respecting his opinion on the things that go on with his kids is really important.”

Yeezy and Kim tied the knot in 2014 following North’s birth a year prior. Kim filed for divorce in 2021 and they settled in November 2022. The former couple has four kids together: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.
