Julian Lennon’s ‘Lucky Ones’ Debuts on Adult Alternative Airplay Chart – Billboard

For the first time since 1991, Julian Lennon appears on a Billboard airplay chart, as “Lucky Ones” debuts at No. 37 on the Adult Alternative Airplay list dated Sept. 10.

“Lucky” marks Lennon’s first airplay chart appearance since the run of “Listen,” which peaked at No. 31 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay survey dated Sept. 14, 1991, and remained on the ranking the following two weeks.

Lennon’s radio chart success began with 1984’s “Valotte,” which reached No. 2 on Mainstream Rock Airplay and No. 4 on Adult Contemporary.

Lennon’s other Mainstream Rock Airplay appearances encompass “Too Late for Goodbyes” (No. 11, 1985), “Say You’re Wrong” (No. 3, 1985), “Stick Around” (No. 1 for three weeks, 1986) and “Now You’re in Heaven” (No. 1, one week, 1989), prior to “Listen.”

“Goodbyes” (No. 1, two weeks, 1985) and “Wrong” (No. 6, 1985) also scaled Adult Contemporary, while “Heaven” is Lennon’s only Alternative Airplay charter to date (No. 27, 1989).

On the all-genre, multi-metric Billboard Hot 100, Lennon has landed two top 10s: “Valotte” (No. 9) and “Goodbyes” (No. 5).

Between “Listen” and “Lucky,” the latter becoming Lennon’s first Adult Alternative Airplay-charting song (after the list began in 1996), the elder son of the late John Lennon released a pair of albums, 1998’s Photograph Smile and 2011’s Everything Changes.

“Lucky” is the lead single from Jude, Lennon’s seventh studio set, due Friday, Sept. 9.
