After entertaining audiences in Season 3 of Reacher as Susan Duffy, Sonya Cassidy is taking on another widely appreciated property. During the flurry of news revealed at the 2025 San Diego Comic Con, Men’s Journal reported that the actor was added to the cast of a new Star Trek venture. Cassidy will join the audio drama series, simply titled Star Trek: Khan. She was cast as Dr. Rosalind Lear, who investigates logs about the titular villain who has plagued the world of Star Trek since its inception.
The Khan in the audio drama is, of course, none other than Khan Noonien Singh, who has appeared in Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, and even had the J.J. Abrams treatment in Into Darkness. In this version, Khan will be portrayed by Lost’s own Naveen Andrews, who gained fan devotion while playing Oceanic survivor Sayid Jarrah.
The introductory infographic serving as a trailer for the drama introduces characters old and new in this fascinating look at a vintage character. Taking place after the fall of Khan, Dr. Lear looks into who Khan was as a person, stating, “In my experience, monsters are made, not born.” This likely will be the thesis of the origins of Star Trek’s most fascinating villain.

Khan was always a source of intrigue since he was first played by Ricardo Montalbán in the original series. The Wrath of Khan is regarded as one of the best films of the original series canon as it explores the character’s revenge against Kirk (William Shatner), who exiled him years prior. Khan became iconic, being one of the elements that spurred on the Eugenics Wars in the lore of the series. He believed in self-modification and appeared enhanced in many portrayals.
Benedict Cumberbatch played Khan in another twist of the story in Star Trek: Into Darkness. As the film took place in an alternate canon from Gene Roddenberry’s original series, the script was flipped when Kirk (Chris Pine) was devastated by radiation instead of Spock (Zachary Quinto). Even in the current canon, Khan is a subject that still fascinates viewers. His descendant La’an Noonien Singh (Christina Chong) is a main character in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and has to contend with her complicated history. This connects with Star Trek: Khan, as characters learn that there is always more than one perspective to any story. Viewers can look forward to this new drama when the first episode of Star Trek: Khan premieres on September 8, 2025, on most podcast platforms.
