While the state of movies (and especially movie theaters) does not look especially healthy at this exact moment, the first 25 years of the 21st century were overloaded with an endless supply of modern classics in just about every imaginable genre, and even a few new genres that had never existed before. (What do you think theLumière brothers would have thought of screenlife films? How would Thomas Edison have reacted to the notion of a legacyquel? These are fun questions to ponder.)

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)”,”photo-description”:”
It’s odd how rarely “best” means “funniest” when people create greatest film lists. From a pure laugh density perspective, there may not be a funniest movie than Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, director Adam McKay and star Will Ferrell’s relentless lampoon of ’70s workplace misogyny. The scene with Ron and his colleague Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and his cabinet of colognes may well be the funniest movie scene of my lifetime. Every line is funny. Every word is funny. There’s like two unfunny syllables. The rest? 24 karat comedy gold.

Christmas cheer? Zero.

Canadian horror movie Black Christmas is perhaps the most iconic holiday season slasher film that has more than stood the test of time — credited with being one of the first-ever slasher movies, period, it has influenced everything from John Carpenter’s Halloween to other home invasion thrillers, as well as any other movie set around the happiest time of year.
Accordingly, it’s the perfect Christmas movie for those decidedly not feeling the Christmas cheer, who would rather watch a bunch of sorority sisters get violently picked off one by one instead of yet another movie about love and family and presents and holiday togetherness. Yuck. Give us Olivia Hussey whacking a guy with a fire poker any day.
