Update: January 22, 2026
The 2026 Oscar nominations are in and, as expected, Sinners and One Battle After Another dominated, making it a downright incredible year for Warner Bros. Until today, All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land were the most nominated films of all time with 14 nominations each. Many predicted Sinners could top that with 15 nominations of its own, but this morning, Ryan Coogler‘s film went even bigger. Thanks to Delroy Lindo‘s very well-deserved surprise nomination in Best Supporting Actor, Sinners wound up with a whopping 16 nominations at the 98th Academy Awards. And while One Battle didn’t achieve a record-breaking amount of nominations, it did snag 13 which is quite the sum.
Another shocking total today comes via Wicked: For Good. Rolling into nomination morning, at the very least, Ariana Grande was considered a lock for her performance as Glinda in the sequel. Not only was she snubbed in the Best Supporting Actress category, but Wicked: For Good also failed to earn a single nomination in any crafts category. After getting 10 nominations last year, two of which turned into wins, it’s a rather devastating blow to see that number reduced to zero this time around.
On the other hand, it was a great morning for the cast of Sentimental Value. There was some concern after SAG completely omitted the film from the list of Actor Award nominees, but given the guild overlooked international features in general, it seemed as thought it was just a blind spot for that specific organization. Sure enough, not only did all four Sentimental Value actors — Renate Reinsve, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Elle Fanning and Stellan Skarsgård — score nominations, but so did Wagner Moura of The Secret Agent, who was also missing from SAG’s list.
One more film having a wonderful morning? Surprise Makeup and Hairstyling nominee The Ugly Stepsister. The first feature from Emilie Blichfeldt celebrated its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and instantly earned high praise, but it’d be a long and extremely steep uphill climb to any awards season recognition, especially an Oscar nomination. But, the Makeup and Hairstyling team did it. Thomas Foldberg and Anne Cathrine Sauerberg are now Academy Award nominees for their work on the independently produced body horror comedy from Norway.
