In part two of The Real Housewives of Potomac, fans watched Mia Thornton leave the stage at the reunion of the reality series. By part three, she decided not to return and leave the studio. By no longer filming, her fate should be sealed. In the first two parts of the reunion, the women held Mia’s feet to the fire in regard to her relationships, children, and lies. Rather than owning it, Mia cried and attempted to play the victim to deflect. The women were no longer playing that game. With Mia understanding she had no allies, she ran. Mia Thornton does not deserve a second chance. Her exit should mark her exit from Potomac.
For a season very much centralized around Karen Huger’s arrest and its aftermath, The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 9 was already walking on thin ice. With some new additions to the ensemble, there were certainly some new stories and characters to focus on. But, perhaps out of fear of fading to the background, Mia Thornton ensured camera time through potentially produced storylines that have now come back to bite her. By not addressing the accusations after being called out, Mia has no excuse and no one to blame but herself for the immediate fallout of her departure.
Mia Thornton Got Herself in this Mess on ‘RHOP’
Mia has always found herself with her back against the wall on The Real Housewives of Potomac. Though, oftentimes, it was her own doing. She’s very much played an antagonistic role in the group, eager to stir the pot and hold others accountable. Now, looking back at the way she was speaking about Karen during Season 9, she was certainly on to something. It was her tact that was lacking. Nevertheless, already having a reputation for negativity, her narrative during the season was put under a microscope simply due to the fact that she was untrustworthy. So, when her story during the season predominantly revolved around her unique blended family situation, it unraveled into something that she was unable to maintain. As headlines continue to swirl with regard to the status of her relationships with Gordon Thornton and Inc, what was presented on camera put both men in a very difficult position.

Her casting leaked before Bravo’s official announcement.
Perhaps Mia desperately hoped that she would be able to discuss the difficult and stressful topics in her life, earn some sympathy from fans and her cast, and move on. That’s not how it played out. What Mia neglected to realize was there were other players in her game. If she wanted to discuss the paternity of her son, it meant that multiple other lives would be involved. And, let’s be honest, it’s not necessarily just a passing conversation. It was three specific individuals’ future. The issue for the other ladies was never about uncovering the truth, it was about the rollout and how Mia portrayed it. Pairing her desire to reveal her son’s paternity on top of her questionable choices during the girls’ trip, the other women had every right to discuss it. Mia stomped her feet and walked out of the reunion because she didn’t want her kids to be evoked. But they had to be since Mia evoked it.
Mia Leaves ‘RHOP’ Disrespectfully
Mia’s big problem is her lack of accountability. Whatever she’s gone through in her personal life that is not shown on screen, that’s on her. But when something is discussed on camera, something that she orchestrates, she has to be able to discuss. Whether she feels she’s right or wrong, whether the other women feel she’s right or wrong, or even the fans, having a conversation is crucial. Running away from it because there may be a sense of guilt or buyer’s remorse for producing the story, that will not fly. Especially with this group of women who are already facing an onslaught of moral dilemmas.
If this is a precursor to how Season 10 might go, Mia doesn’t deserve to return. Like some Housewives who ditched the reunion by choice and then were not invited to return to the show, Mia deserves the same fate. She ran because she was unwilling to take accountability. What makes anyone think she’ll take accountability in the future? Her disrespectful departure shows where her allegiance lies. And it’s to herself.
On camera in the dressing room, she blamed her emotions on the women discussing her children. It was a hypocritical comment as she is the one who roped her children and partners into her storyline. If she didn’t want them a part of her discussed, then she shouldn’t have produced them as part of her story! Mia will never change and doesn’t deserve a chance at redemption. Respect and loyalty are major buzz words on any Housewives series. Mia Thornton has shown neither toward The Real Housewives of Potomac.
