Guy Ritchie is known for making gritty movies and dramas. From The Covenant to The Gentlemen, he has made a name for himself in action-oriented films. Ritchie has also been part of some television projects, and the highest-rated one with his name attached is the British gangster drama MobLand. He serves as an executive producer and director on the Tom Hardy-led series, which is rated fresh at 76% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. MobLand was originally made for Paramount+, where it has been dominating for over four months since the Season 1 finale. However, the series is available on other streaming platforms, including SkyShowtime and, more recently, HBO Max. The series has found major success on HBO Max, especially in Asia, where it’s number one in countries like Thailand, Taiwan, and Singapore.
MobLand is set in the UK’s criminal underworld and follows two warring families: the Harrigans and the Stevensons. The families have been involved in a blood feud for generations, but matters reach a critical point, and choices must be made. The Ronan Bennett-created series was a hit on Paramount+, where it has amassed over 26 million views. It boasts a star-studded cast consisting of Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey), Lara Pulver (Da Vinci’s Demons), Anson Boon (Pistol), Mandeep Dhillon (CSI: Vegas), and more.
The series was renewed for Season 2, with production set to begin imminently, as revealed by Froggatt in an interview with MovieWeb. “MobLand was one of those incredible moments where Chris McCarthy came to us with the vision of creating the next great mob series, and after traversing the UK countryside in a quest to land Guy Ritchie, we both came to the realization that we knew the exact formula. With the extraordinary talent of Guy, Ronan, Jez [Butterworth] and our incredible cast, we brought that vision to life,” said David C. Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, when announcing the renewal.
What Is the Status of Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Gentlemen’?
MobLand is not the only crime drama Ritchie is involved in; the television adaptation of his 2019 film The Gentlemen is also gearing up to return. The Theo James-led Netflix drama wrapped production recently and is expected to air sometime in 2026. The season’s description reveals a time jump and the general arc. It reads:
“It’s been one year since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby’s criminal empire overseas. As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well…”
MobLand Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date, but stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
