Lucien Laviscount has emerged as a contender to be the next James Bond. The 30-year-old star has caught the attention of 007 chief, Barbara Broccoli, for his performance as heartthrob Alfie in the Netflix series “Emily in Paris.” Lucien would fit the bill as Daniel Craig’s replacement as the iconic spy after Broccoli said that she wanted to cast an actor who could play the role for the next 15 years. It is also thought that Bond bosses are keen for an ethnic-minority actor to play the character to ensure that the franchise reflects modern society.
However, there are fears that Lucien’s appearance on the reality show “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2011 could count against him, as former Bonds have come from highbrow backgrounds. Broccoli, 62, previously revealed that she and co-producer Michael G. Wilson are planning a different trajectory for the Bond franchise following Craig’s exit.

South Africa will adopt a wait-and-see approach before imposing COVID-19 travel restrictions on passengers arriving from China. This comes amid a spike in COVID-19 infections and reports of mortuaries overflowing in the Asian country after it dropped stringent “zero-COVID-19” measures on December 7 to adopt a strategy of living with the virus. The spike has triggered a host of nations, including Canada, Australia, the US, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, and Japan, to reinstate COVID-19 travel requirements for a negative COVID-19 test or testing upon arrival for those who have visited China.
SA Health Department spokesperson Foster Mohale said: “There is no immediate plan to impose travel restrictions or special requirements on travelers from China and other parts of the world. However, we are monitoring the surge of cases in China.” The National Institute for Communicable Diseases reported 117 new COVID-19 infections on January 1, with 47 cases in KwaZulu-Natal, 28 in Gauteng, and 23 in the Western Cape.

Sebastien Haller returned to Borussia Dortmund training on Monday for the first time since an operation on a testicular tumor. The Ivory Coast international was initially diagnosed in July and had to undergo a second operation in November. He has now returned to training with the German side, suggesting he could be available for selection before long.
Haller has not yet played in a competitive match for Dortmund since making the move to the Bundesliga team from Ajax last summer. He is scheduled to travel to Marbella with the rest of the team on Friday for a training camp. If the 28-year-old is fit, he could be included when Dortmund returns to league action. “Hello guys, I’m finally back,” Haller said in a video posted on Twitter. “It was not that easy but with your support it was better and easier to do. I’m just looking forward to seeing you in the stadium for some victories.”
