What are corset braids?
Corset braids are a hair-weaving technique that involves creating a laced or corset-like pattern within a braided hairstyle. They are often characterized by the appearance of woven or crisscrossed sections that resemble a corset’s lacing. Corset braids are a fusion of creativity and craftsmanship, resulting in a unique and eye-catching hairstyle.
What are the types of corset braids?
This head-turning hairstyle comes in a variety of styles, including:
- Basic corset braids: This style features a single, central corset-like pattern running down the length of a regular braid. It’s a great starting point for those new to corset braiding.
- Double corset braids: For added drama, you can create two corset patterns on either side of your head, framing your face beautifully.
- Fishtail corset braids: Combine the elegance of a fishtail braid with the charm of corset weaving for a mesmerizing look.
- Half-up corset braids: This style combines the elegance of corset braids with a half-up, half-down hairstyle, perfect for a casual yet stylish appearance.
How to do corset braids hairstyle
What you’ll need:
- Ribbons (about 1 yard or meter each, matching or contrasting with your hair)
- A comb
- Hair elastics
- Bobby pins
- Hairspray (optional)
How to do:
1. Prep your hair
Begin with clean, dry hair. If your hair is too slippery, you can add some texture by applying a bit of hairspray or texturizing spray.
2. Comb and part
After gently combing, use a parting comb to create a middle part down the center of your head, dividing your hair into two equal sections.
3. Secure one section
Next, take one of the hair sections and temporarily secure it with a hair elastic or clip to keep it out of the way while you work on the other side.
4. Start braiding
Begin braiding the unsecured section of hair — whether a basic three-strand braid, a fishtail braid, or any other braid style you like. Then, braid down to the ends of your hair and secure it with a hair tie. Do the same for the other side of the hair
5. Attach the ribbon
Take one of the ribbons and attach it to the top of your braid near the front. You can do this by tying a knot or using a small hair elastic to secure it.
6. Weave the ribbon
Here comes the best part! Begin weaving the ribbon through your two braids. Start from the front where you attached it and thread it over; then under; and over again, alternating between the strands of your braid. Make sure to keep the ribbon taut for a neat look.
7. Secure the ribbon
Once you reach the end of your braid, secure the ribbon in place with a small hair elastic or by tying a knot.
8. Add finishing touches
Gently tug on the edges of your braid to loosen it slightly and make it appear fuller. You can also spritz your braids with hairspray to set the style and help hold the ribbon in place.
