Grammy-winning Afrobeats star, Burna Boy is producing his first film–an upcoming thriller titled “3 Cold Dishes.” This marks Burna Boy’s first foray into Nollywood, Nigeria’s film industry. The movie is going to production under Spaceship Films, the production company he co-founded with his mother, Bose Ogulu. However, “3 Cold Dishes” is not a solo project for the Afrobeats singer. Black Mic Mac Productions is the lead producer, with co-production also coming from Ifind, Alma Productions, Asurf Films, and Martian Network.
The film is helmed by award-winning director Asurf Oluseyi, known for his 2016 AMVCA win for Best Short Film, “A Day with Death.” The plot of “3 Cold Dishes” tackles a serious subject: sex trafficking. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Nollywood veterans like Osas Ighodaro, Femi Jacobs, and Wale Ojo. It also features actors from Ivory Coast and Senegal, reflecting the film’s international scope.

Legendary rapper Nas is heading to Las Vegas for a special residency to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his iconic debut album, “Illmatic.” Partnering with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Nas will perform a three-night concert series titled “Nas With the Las Vegas Philharmonic” at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas. The shows will take place over Labor Day Weekend, kicking off on August 29 and running through September 1 (there’s no show on August 30). While the focus will be on “Illmatic”, fans can also expect to hear other hits from Nas’ extensive discography throughout the concerts.
This isn’t the first time the rapper has performed Illmatic with a live orchestra. South Africa’s beloved Lira, a multi-award-winning songstress, is ready to reclaim her rightful place on stage. This exciting news comes after a two-year battle to regain her voice following a stroke in 2022. The stroke, which left her temporarily unable to speak, read, and write, significantly impacted Lira’s life. However, her unwavering determination and tireless rehabilitation efforts have paved the way for an inspiring comeback.
Lira’s grand return will be on a momentous occasion: Africa Day, celebrated on May 25. The Bassline Fest in Johannesburg will serve as the platform for her triumphant performance. This is fitting as Africa Day celebrates African culture, unity, and perseverance, which also highlights Lira’s personal triumph over adversity. The singer’s journey back hasn’t been easy. In interviews, she has revealed the challenges of relearning basic skills like reading and writing.
4. Tems Lights Up Fallon with “Born in the Wild” Medley
Nigerian superstar Tems set “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” ablaze with a powerful performance this week. Teasing her highly anticipated debut album, “Born in the Wild,” Tems delivered a captivating medley that left audiences wanting more. The smooth-voiced singer opened with a snippet of the album’s title track, “Born in the Wild,” showcasing her signature blend of soulful vocals and introspective lyrics. She then transitioned seamlessly into “Love Me JeJe,” her latest single that puts a fresh spin on a beloved 1997 classic by Seyi Sodimu.
This marked Tems’ second appearance on Fallon, following her 2021 performance alongside Wizkid for their global hit “Essence.” With “Born in the Wild” set for release in June and a world tour on the horizon, Tems is solidifying her position as a major force in music.
5. Southgate shakes up squad: Rashford, Henderson, Sterling omitted for Euros
BREAKING: Gareth Southgate has announced England’s provisional squad for Euro 2024 🏴📝 pic.twitter.com/jFIvPnFdkx

Gareth Southgate has surprised fans with his selections for England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad, leaving out established names like Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, and Raheem Sterling. The 33-man list, announced on Tuesday, prioritizes in-form youngsters alongside some surprise inclusions. Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, a fringe player in recent squads, has earned a recall after a string of impressive performances. Joining him are two uncapped teenagers: defender Jarell Quansah of Liverpool and midfielder Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace.
The omissions of Rashford and Henderson are a blow, with both struggling for form at club level. Sterling’s exclusion is perhaps the biggest surprise, having been a mainstay for England for years. However, his lack of playing time at Chelsea seems to have cost him a place. The likes of Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and Harry Kane remain, providing a strong core to the squad. There are also returns for defenders Lewis Dunk and Ezri Konsa, while Manchester United’s youngster, Kobbie Mainoo gets a chance to impress. With key decisions still to be made, Southgate will trim the squad to 26 players by June 8.
