When the weather goes full moody autumn, it’s hard to resist giving in to its grungy calling. As the new season evolves, it doesn’t take long until the drizzly, foggy ambiance rubs off on us, stirring up once-forgotten yearnings for dark autumnal colours and sumptuous fabrics. When you’re starting to feel the weight of the darkness and cold, there are really only a few things that can restore morale: long, hot baths, cosy pub lunches and bundles of soft layers.
Personally, when the weather is working against me, I like to lean in and embrace those grungier pieces like worn leather, hardy denim and slinky silk to feel in flow with the elements. I’m clearly not the only one giving in to the change, as this month I’ve spotted a number of celebrities swap their boxy blazers for baggy leather, styling oversized jackets and sweeping trench coats en masse. Aligning with autumn, we’re seeing black leather jackets make some room for warm brown styles to soften up certain looks, giving a nod to that classic colour palette.
