At the 2023 Grammy Awards ceremony, Beyonce will have nine chances to add to her total of 28 Grammy wins. The 41-year-old star is the top nominee for the 65th annual Grammy Awards, with all but one of her nods coming for her dance-heavy album “Renaissance.” She leads a pack that includes Kendrick Lamar, with eight nominations; Adele and Brandi Carlile, with seven each; and Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, Future, DJ Khaled, and the producer-songwriter The-Dream, with six each, the Recording Academy announced on Tuesday.

The awards will be held on February 5 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles (the former Staples Center). Beyoncé’s nominations are in each of the three big all-genre categories — Album of the Year, plus Record and Song of the Year for her single “Break My Soul” — as well as in the Dance/Electronic Field and in R&B, where her tracks “Virgo’s Groove” (R&B performance), “Plastic Off the Sofa” (traditional R&B performance), and “Cuff It” (R&B song) were all recognized. She is also up for Best Song Written for Visual Media for “Be Alive,” from the film “King Richard.”

Those bring Beyoncé to a career total of 88 nominations, tying Jay-Z, her husband, for the most received by any artist in the history of the awards. (Jay-Z, who had held the record with 83 nods, got five more this year, for contributions to “Renaissance” and DJ Khaled’s “God Did.”)

Afrobeats megastar Burna Boy has been nominated for the 2023 Grammy Awards with his 6th album “Love, Damini” shortlisted for the World Album prize. The 2023 Grammy nominations were announced on Tuesday, November 15. The nomination is Burna Boy’s fourth following the Grammy nominations of “African Giant” and “Twice As Tall” for the World Album Category in 2020 and 2021 respectively. He also earned a nomination for Best Global Song for his contributions to Angelique Kidjo’s “Do Yourself.”

His smash record “Last Last” was also nominated for Best Global performance, making him a five-time Grammy-nominated artist.

Cassper Nyovest is never one to listen to naysayers and when he tweeted that his single would drop in two years’ time, some tweeps were shaken. Taking to his Twitter timeline on Monday, the rapper said he needed a break from making music. This after his latest offering “Bana ba Stout” received bad reviews from his hardcore fans. “Bana ba Stout not dropping anymore cause I respect the fans. We gonna drop in 24 months. Me, Ronaldo, and LeBron are having a bad season. As the 3 GOATS we need a break. I thank you,” he tweeted.

On Tuesday, Cassper did a U-turn, saying: “Bana ba Stout music video dropping Thursday at 4pm! Let’s go! Team Nyovest, y’all get this to a million views and I drop another banger! Maybe 2 more.”

One Twitter user reminded the rapper of his tweet less than 24 hours earlier when he said he would release the song in two years’ time. “Hahahaha do you guys really think I care about what these low life Twitter folk have to say about me? I want them to think they matter and just keep my name in their mouth. I’m a boss and I do what I want to do. I do what I believe in and I make music that I want to make,” replied Cassper.

4. Viola Davis is now a Grammy nominee

Viola Davis has received nominations for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording at the 65th Grammy Awards, which was announced on Tuesday. She was nominated for narrating her memoir “Find Me” alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jamie Foxx, Mel Brooks, and Questlove. If she wins this category, Davis joins the growing list of EGOT winners: people who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards.

Previously known as the Best Spoken Word Album from 1998 to 2021, the award was retitled this year. It previously encompassed the Best Spoken Word album as well as poetry, audiobooks, and storytelling.

5. Sadio Mane to miss ‘first games’ of World Cup with injury

Injured Senegal forward Sadio Mane will miss multiple matches at the World Cup, according to an official from the Senegal Football Federation. Mane’s leg injury will cause him to miss Senegal’s “first games” at the World Cup, according to Senegal federation board member Abdoulaye Sow. “We will have to rely on playing the first games without Sadio and win without Sadio because we have 25 players apart from Sadio,” Sow said. “No one would have wanted it, but that’s what’s happened to us.”

Mane is Senegal’s undisputed biggest star, and his absence for any amount of time will be a tremendous blow to the team. The ex-Liverpool attacker led his country to an Africa Cup of Nations triumph at the start of 2022 and had been eager to carry the Lions of Teranga to the World Cup knockout stages.

As part of Senegal’s 26-man squad, Mane is still expected to feature at some point in the tournament, though it appears it will be a tight race to be fit before the end of the group stage. Senegal will face the Netherlands, Qatar, and Ecuador in Group A. Beyonce Grammy 2023
