Let’s get one thing straight: classic doesn’t have to mean basic. I’m making this point from the off because I think it’s important to distinguish what we’re talking about here. When I say classic summer pieces, I mean items I wear for the duration of the warmer weather. It’s the floral dress I wear every time I have dinner with friends, the loose vest top I put on when there’s a heatwave and the chunky sandals I pair with practically everything. But it can also mean some fun printed trousers, a bright-pink midi or a satin slip skirt. Classic here translates as items I wear all the time that are ideal for summer, and they don’t have to be neutral or pared-back.
