After five years at the helm, Travis Perkins chief executive Nick Roberts has announced his decision to step down, pending the appointment of a successor. Roberts, who joined the company in July 2019, led Travis Perkins through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, following a successful career at consulting engineer WS Atkins.
Under Roberts’ leadership, Travis Perkins navigated the complexities of the pandemic, but recent financial reports indicate a decline in performance. The company reported a significant drop in pre-tax profits in 2023, prompting the board to seek new leadership to revitalize the business.
Travis Perkins Chair Jasmine Whitbread expressed gratitude for Roberts’ dedication and contributions while acknowledging the need for improvement in business performance. Whitbread highlighted the importance of enhancing profitability, cash generation, and operational efficiency to position Travis Perkins for future growth and shareholder value creation.
In response, Roberts expressed pride in the progress made during his tenure and reaffirmed his commitment to driving performance until a successor is appointed. He emphasized the company’s talented team and expressed confidence in Travis Perkins’ ability to emerge stronger from the current economic challenges.
As Travis Perkins begins the search for a new CEO, the focus remains on executing strategic initiatives to streamline operations and enhance competitiveness in anticipation of market recovery.
