Recently disclosed information indicates that Brian Niccol, the new CEO of Starbucks, has made headlines by earning nearly $100 million within just four months of joining the company.
As of 2024, his total executive compensation package amounts to an impressive $95,801,676, which includes his earnings from when he assumed the role on September 9 through the end of the year.
The majority of Niccol’s compensation comes from stock awards. His base salary is $61,538, but he also received stock awards valued at $90,291,772. Additionally, he secured a significant $5 million sign-on bonus after just one month in the position.
Starbucks paid for many costs, including $6,303 in COBRA insurance payments, $48,671 in legal fees for job talks, and $127,765 for security costs related to protecting employees.
The compensation package also includes $418,071 in additional benefits. This amount accounts for $143,567 in temporary housing expenses, as Niccol was not required to relocate from Southern California to Starbucks’ headquarters in Seattle. Instead, he commutes using the company’s jet, which incurs additional expenses of $72,398 for travel between his home and the headquarters, along with $19,367 for personal use of the company aircraft.
In a separate case, Laxman Narasimhan received $21.5 million from Starbucks, which includes $14.4 million in stock awards and $5.9 million in other compensation, predominantly in the form of a $4.2 million severance payment. He also received a portion of the bonus he would have earned had he served as CEO for the entire year.
According to the filing, Narasimhan is entitled to an additional $4.2 million in cash severance 18 months after his termination date.
