What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Sun in My Heart?
It is so hard to know what inspires me to write a book. The idea comes to me and then it grows until the story begins to tell itself. I prefer themes that reflect sacrifice and courage in my work because I admire those quaities in people.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Sun in My Heart, what would they be?
Bring Me To Life by Evanescence; I’ll Stand by You by Pretenders; Meet Me in the Woods by Lord Huron.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love a good romantic suspense or contemporary romance with unpredictable elements.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
“The Love of My Life” by Rosie Walsh. “Hidden in Snow” by Viveca Sten.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The unpredictable scenes caught me the most. And also caused me to tear up.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
No quirky habits. I do listen to meditation music as I write.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
My philosophy is to never let anyone tell you that your work isn’t worthy or that you can’t achieve your dreams. I’ve always told my kids to surround themselves with good people. I’ve had to learn that lesson the hard way. Good people can lift you up. Toxic people can tear you down.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I want my readers to remember the emotions that my book evoked in them. How the work touched them.
