Andrew Keith is stepping down from his position as CEO of Selfridges to explore new opportunities. Keith, who joined Selfridges in early 2021 and assumed the CEO role in June 2023, previously revitalized Hong Kong’s Lane Crawford department store. During his tenure at Selfridges, he navigated a challenging UK retail environment characterized by high inflation, recurring COVID-19 outbreaks, and the end of tax-free shopping.
In the wake of Keith’s departure, André Maeder, CEO of the parent company Selfridges Group, will assume additional responsibilities as CEO of the flagship Selfridges brand. Maeder, who joined Selfridges Group last October after leading the German department store group KaDeWe for a decade, will guide Selfridges through its next phase.
Keith’s leadership saw an acceleration in the rollout of rental and resale services while maintaining Selfridges’ signature mix of luxury and accessible offerings. Despite the difficulties, he managed to uphold the brand’s reputation for blending high-end experiences with broader consumer appeal.
Keith’s exit coincides with Selfridges’ ongoing adaptation to a rapidly evolving retail landscape. The brand continues to emphasize sustainability and innovative customer experiences to appeal to both price-sensitive and environmentally-conscious consumers. This leadership transition is aimed at ensuring the brand’s sustained growth and stability amidst these industry shifts.
