On May 7, TikTok sued the U.S. government over a new law that might lead to a nationwide ban of the app. This lawsuit was expected, as the company had previously warned it would take legal action after President Joe Biden signed the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. TikTok could be banned unless its parent company, ByteDance, sells it to a non-Chinese company by mid-January 2025 if they lose the lawsuit.
TikTok and ByteDance filed their lawsuit in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, arguing that the law violates the Constitution by limiting free speech and access to information. Their petition stated, “The ‘qualified divestiture’ the law requires for TikTok to keep operating in the U.S. is impossible to achieve — not commercially, technologically, legally, and definitely not within the 270 days the law demands.” They also claimed that by singling out TikTok, Congress went too far and violated the First Amendment.

Al-Hilal star Neymar has sent food aid to the flood victims in Brazil. Heavy rains caused severe flooding across Brazil, resulting in nearly 85 deaths and displacing around 150,000 people, according to media reports. During this difficult time, Neymar helped by sending food to those in need and encouraging others to donate.
The 32-year-old posted a photo of an airplane loaded with food supplies headed for Brazil, stating in the caption that he usually doesn’t like to publicize his charitable actions because they are done from the heart, not for recognition. However, he stated that he shared the post to inspire more people to help. He thanked the pilots and everyone involved, mentioning he is praying for normalcy to return and that his father is also actively helping. Neymar is currently recovering from an ACL injury he sustained shortly after starting to play for Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal last year.
