Hal Ashby’s sociopolitical satire Being There ends twice: First, with its beautiful, surreal final scene of Peter Sellers’ “Chauncey Gardiner” stepping through a garden, straightening a fallen tree and walking on water without sinking; second, with its credits, during which plays footage of Sellers repeatedly cracking up while reading a particularly complicated line while the crew and director laugh off camera.
