Mellody Hobson, the co-CEO of Ariel Investments, is set to become a part-owner of the Denver Broncos. As a part of the Walton-Penner group led by Rob Walton, the NFL squad will reportedly sell for $4.65 billion which would be a record price paid for a North American sports franchise. Just last year, the Broncos were valued by Forbes at $ 3.75 billion.
During the process of selling the team, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said that he wanted the next ownership group of the Broncos to have minority representation. As a part of the group, Hobson will be one of the few Black women to have an ownership stake in a professional sports team.
Hobson also is the chair of the board of directors of Starbucks, holding the distinction of being the first Black woman to become the chairperson of a company in the Standard & Poor’s 500. Additionally, she is the chair of the board of DreamWorks Animation and a board member of Estée Lauder Companies. A native of Chicago, Hobson is a graduate of Princeton University. She is married to the legendary filmmaker George Lucas.

Burna Boy’s associates have been accused of interrupting events at a Lagos nightclub. After an incident with some other partygoers, the music star’s suspected friends shot a gun inside a prominent nightclub, according to multiple eyewitnesses who recounted their experience on Twitter. “Burna boy no suppose deh walk freely if Nigeria and Lagos police deh actually work, you commot gun for club shoot because you and your boys they fight people,” an eyewitness tweeted. “And to the whole of Cubana group, y’all are bastards, that kind thing no fit actually happen for quilox shaaa, you go shoot person and escape freely, never.”
One eyewitness alleged that the music star’s team caused a lot of harm on the premises of the nightclub. Another said the singer’s team destroyed his friend’s car while trying to leave the crime scene. Reports also say Burna Boy wasn’t directly involved in the incident.

Actress Pearl Thusi has reacted to the dating rumors circulating around social media. Taking to Twitter the “Fistful of Vengeance” actress laughed off the rumor that was started by controversial SA Twitter blogger Musa Khawula. Khawula, who has been sharing many rumors about celebrities recently, took to his timeline and speculated that Pearl Thusi was at the beach with her new bae. “Pearl Thusi spotted with Topchap Siya at Clifton Beach. They are rumored to be in a relationship but Topchap is in another relationship with some white girl,” he wrote.
In her mentions, Pearl’s followers pointed out that what they saw were obvious distinctions between Pearl and the woman pictures on the snap the blogger shared. Pearl has been in Cape Town living it up and of course, kept her Insta followers up to date. She shared a clip of her admiring majestic views from The Twelve Apostles Hotel in Cape Town. It’s not the first time celebs have denied what the blogger has alleged. Celebs including Ayanda Thabete and K.O. are some of the most recent celebs to find themselves in the blogger’s web of lies.
4. LeBron James to open multimillion-dollar medical facility in Akron, Ohio
LeBron James is giving back to his hometown of Akron, Ohio and will open a medical facility to better serve the community. On Tuesday, June 7 an official Instagram post by the LeBron James Family Foundation announced that the multimillion-dollar facility, I Promise HealthQuarters, will be available to provide services to students who attend his I Promise School and the neighboring areas.
“When our families expressed a need for more health care services… we went to work,” IG caption revealed, sharing the news. “We’ve come together with three organizations, AxessPointe, Coleman Services, [and] Peg’s Foundation to create I Promise HealthQuarters to offer a variety of services ALL under one roof.” Doors have been planned to open in 2023 and will be within walking distance from the I Promise School and across the street from House Three Thirty, a center that assists in job training and financial literacy.
5. Salah beats De Bruyne to PFA Player of the Year

Mohamed Salah has won the men’s 2021-22 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year award following an incredible individual campaign for Liverpool, while Sam Kerr has done so for Women’s Super League champions Chelsea. Salah wins the men’s award for the second time, beating Manchester City rival Kevin De Bruyne to the prize. Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, and Salah’s team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane were also nominated. The PFA award is voted for by current and former professional footballers, and Salah has once again impressed his peers above all others in the Premier League.
The Egyptian is now one of only nine players to have won two PFA Players’ Player awards, joining Ronaldo and De Bruyne, along with Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, and Gareth Bale, plus twice women’s award winners Lucy Bronze and Fran Kirby.
